CROWN creates (throne) room for businesswomen

A pioneering Oldham programme aims to elevate entrepreneurial women to the position of sovereigns in our society today – and tomorrow.

Upturn’s Creating Remarkable Opportunities for Women Network (CROWN) will offer encouragement at schools for future female business gurus, hold events to celebrate women’s achievements, and prove health issues such as menopause are no barrier to entrepreneurial and career success.

And founder Maria Williams (pictured) believes that by raising up the girls, we build a closer society which will “create a ripple effect that will benefit families, businesses, and the broader Oldham area.”

Continued Maria: “CROWN is dedicated to empowering women, fostering leadership, and making a lasting impact in Oldham. Our mission is to elevate the journey of women in our community, whether they are seasoned entrepreneurs or just beginning their business ventures. Together, we rise and wear our crowns with pride.”

CROWN aims to:

  • Inspire women to become leaders in commerce by showcasing the achievements of local females
  • Build strong support networks by creating a supportive platform for women to connect and share experiences which could lead to partnerships and collaborations
  • Mentor and guide to help bridge the gap between potential and opportunity, fostering a new generation of confident and capable leaders
  • Create a Culture of Empowerment by celebrating the successes of businesswomen on a scale not seen in Oldham before.

Additionally, influential women connected to the network will visit schools four times a year to talk to female students about everything from their health to economic wealth.

Using Upturn’s impressive list of business and charitable partners, the CROWN pioneers will be able to learn mindfulness practices, meditation techniques and get legal advice on divorce and wills.

Continued Maria: “We firmly believe that by supporting women we are in turn benefitting community projects, charity fundraisers and strengthening the social fabric of Oldham.”
